Michael’s photographic work explores the space between seeing and feeling. In this space, the concreteness of an object, an experience, or
a place begins to blur, to disintegrate and becomes transparent.
Memory, feeling, imagination and history overlap reality and transformation can happen. Michael feels that “In this space, creation and reinvention occur. Transformation begins and what is seen becomes more than itself, yet closer to it’s essence. It is this essence I am trying to capture.”
The photo encaustic process adds a luminous quality to his artwork. Using a combination of photography, oils and beeswax in warm tones, Michael creates a hybrid art somewhere between painting and photography. Between seeing and feeling.
